PANAMA CANAL DRAFT CHANGES

May 18, 2019

Panama Canal Authority (ACP) announced on January 2019 that the maximum draft for a ship transiting the Neopanamax locks will be set to 14.94 meters as of 11th of February 2019.

Vessels with drafts exceeding the 14.94 meters may be allowed to steam on the Gatum Lake, depending on the level of the lake at the time, as per Panama Canal Authority. If water levels are too low, vessels exceeding that limit will have to trim or off-load cargo in order to pass.

Additionally, Panama Canal Authority, will announce draft adjustments for the Neopanamax locks in 30-centimeter decrements at a time during the dry season, with at least four weeks notice in advance.
